Hello friends,
I'm starting this blog because I need a place to put thoughts that don't belong anywhere else. I'm here to talk about life in America, creative progress (and block), and growing up (for real this time, I swear!). There will be a bit of everything here, posted sporadically. Eventually, I might even hear from you (the big ol' www, which doesn't know I exist yet). Anyway, I'm here, hello!
By way of introduction, I'll be posting as Mayella. I'm a young woman from the rural mid-Atlantic US who's finishing a degree in History nearby. After three years in the city, I moved home to reconnect with my roots and prepare for the future. Going to university has changed me in so many ways. I've learned oh so much about myself and the "outside" world, built relationships with individuals who have changed my life (for better or for worse), and done a bit of world traveling. I've experienced exponential growth, but sometimes I find it hard to reconnect with my self. The further I travel into time, the more I feel I am missing parts of me. Who am I? What sort of person have I become? Where am I going and what do I have to offer the world? Are these even the right questions to ask? Lately, these questions have left me in a slump that I can't seem to crawl out of. I'm not a slumper, so this isn't going to fly for me. I'm creating this place, a loose journal of sorts, to work myself out. In time, I hope this blog will represent the evolution of my work and process. I'll be posting short stories, poetry, thoughts about my day, and perhaps a photo or two.
xx,
Mayella
